Terms of service
Plain terms. Safety first.
BuildMog is a guide, not the manufacturer's instructions. Follow the safety warnings in the box.
The short version
- The box comes first. The manufacturer's manual, labels and warnings win over anything BuildMog shows or says.
- 3D manuals are free, with ads. Live comes with 5 minutes to try, and we may add minutes for finishing or sharing a build. More Live minutes and custom manuals built right away are paid: a Project Pass, a Top-up or Pro.
- Minutes you buy never expire. Pro's 120 minutes reset every month. Pro cancels at the end of the period you paid for.
- Use it fairly. Film your build, not people. No bots, no reselling, no attempts to pry prompts or other people's data out of BuildMog.
- We are a small team. BuildMog is provided as it is, and our liability is limited to what you paid us in the last twelve months, except where the law says otherwise.
1. The agreement
These terms are a contract between you and Octag AI LLC ("we") for the BuildMog website, the web app and the apps (together, "BuildMog"). By using BuildMog, signing in or buying, you accept them. If you do not agree, do not use BuildMog. The privacy policy explains what we process and is part of these terms.
2. A guide, not the manufacturer's instructions
BuildMog is a guide, not the manufacturer's instructions. Follow the safety warnings in the box. BuildMog shows how parts fit together and can warn you about common mistakes, but the manufacturer's manual, labels and warnings come first. If BuildMog and the manufacturer disagree, follow the manufacturer.
- It can be wrong. 3D parts are simplified shapes. Custom manuals are compiled by AI from your scan and can contain mistakes. The Live Co-Pilot can miss a mistake, or flag something that is fine. Check each step yourself.
- Your build is yours. Use the right tools, wear eye and hand protection where the job calls for it, get a second person when the manual asks for one, and anchor tall furniture to the wall.
- Fix Mode needs extra care. Switch off and unplug appliances, shut off water and gas supplies, and let engines and parts cool before you start. Do not work on gas lines, mains wiring, airbags, brake systems or anything under pressure unless you are qualified. When BuildMog says a job needs a professional, stop.
- Never while driving. Do not use the Live Co-Pilot while driving, or in any way that takes your attention from a running machine or tool.
- Warranties. A repair can affect a product's warranty. Check yours before you open anything.
3. Who can use BuildMog
You must be at least 13 years old, or 16 where that is the age of digital consent. If you are under 18, read these terms with a parent or guardian. Children should build, repair and use tools with an adult.
You can watch 3D manuals without an account. An account keeps your minutes, custom manuals, My Garage and purchases on every device. Give accurate information, keep your sign-in safe, and tell us at once if someone else uses it. One person, one account: shared or resold accounts can be closed.
4. Plans, minutes and purchases
Free
Free costs nothing: every 3D manual in the library, with scrub, rewind, slow motion and X-ray, in Build Mode and Fix Mode. Free manuals carry ads. Watching never uses Live minutes. Each account also gets 5 Live Co-Pilot minutes, once, to try it (we may add minutes for finishing or sharing a build), one custom manual a month built right away, and one request a week after that: requested manuals are built overnight, and manuals built from official PDFs join the shared library.
Project Pass
A Project Pass is a one-time purchase of $5.99, unless checkout shows a different price. It adds 35 Live Co-Pilot minutes and 1 custom manual built right away from your scan, and turns ads off for 30 days. The minutes and the custom manual stay until you use them; they never expire.
Top-up
A Top-up is a one-time purchase of $2.99 that adds 10 Live Co-Pilot minutes. Minutes you buy never expire.
Pro
Pro is a subscription: $9.99 a month, unless checkout shows a different price. It includes 120 Live Co-Pilot minutes each calendar month, unlimited custom manuals, My Garage with maintenance reminders, and no ads. Pro minutes reset on the first day of each month (UTC) and do not carry over. Unlimited custom manuals are subject to fair use: up to 20 a month are built right away, and the rest are built overnight.
Pro renews every month or every year until you cancel. Cancel any time: on the web in Manage billing on the account page (the Stripe billing portal), or in the App Store or Google Play if you subscribed there. Cancelling stops the next renewal. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for, and we do not refund part of a period unless the law or the store's rules say so.
How Live minutes count
Live minutes count only while a Live session is running. They are charged as the session goes, in blocks of up to two minutes: Pro or free-trial minutes first, then minutes you bought. If a block cannot start because of a fault on our side, it is not charged; time left unused inside a block when you stop is not returned. Minutes have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and work only in BuildMog.
Payments and taxes
Web purchases are processed by Stripe; purchases in the apps by Apple or Google under their terms. Prices are in US dollars and may not include taxes we must add by law. If a payment fails we may retry it and, after telling you, pause the paid feature.
Refunds
Apple and Google handle refunds for purchases made through them. For a web purchase, email hello@buildmog.com within 14 days of buying it, and we refund it if you have not used a meaningful part of it: less than a third of its Live minutes, and no custom manual made from it. Where the law gives you a stronger right, that right applies.
5. Your scans and our content
Your scans. What you upload stays yours. You give us only the permission we need to make your custom manual, as the privacy policy describes. Upload only manuals and photos you have the right to use, and use custom manuals for your own builds. Do not use BuildMog to republish or sell manufacturers' manuals.
Brands and trademarks. BuildMog is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by IKEA or any other manufacturer or brand whose products it shows. Product names, brands and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the product a manual is for.
Our content. The software, the 3D player, the library's 3D manuals, the Mog mascot and the BuildMog name are ours or our licensors'. You may use them to build and fix your own things. If a manual or something Mog said is wrong or unsafe, tell us at hello@buildmog.com.
6. Fair use
Use BuildMog to build and fix things. Do not:
- point the Live Co-Pilot at people who have not agreed to it, or use it to watch anyone;
- upload other people's private information, or pages that are not manuals;
- try to make the AI produce content that is illegal, hateful or dangerous, or that breaks the usage policies of Anthropic or Google;
- try to extract prompts, other users' data or our systems' secrets;
- use bots or scripts to scrape, overload or probe BuildMog, or to get around plan limits, App Check or rate limits;
- share, sell or rent your account, minutes or custom manuals.
We may remove content, suspend or close accounts that do, and report illegal activity.
7. Brands
The brand pilot and any QR code program are covered by a separate written agreement with the brand. These terms apply to the people who scan the codes.
8. Other companies' services
Sign-in uses Apple, Google or Firebase email sign-in. Payments use Stripe, the App Store or Google Play. Custom manuals use Anthropic's API, and the Live Co-Pilot uses Google's Gemini Live API. These services have their own terms, and they may change or end their support at any time. We are not responsible for them.
9. Changes to the service and to these terms
We improve BuildMog all the time and may add, change or retire features and manuals. If we retire something you paid for, we give at least 30 days' notice and, for a prepaid period or minutes you cannot use, a proportional refund. If BuildMog ever shuts down, we give at least 60 days' notice. If we change these terms in a way that affects your rights, we tell signed-in users by email or in the app before the change applies. Using BuildMog after that means you accept the new terms.
10. Warranties and liability
BuildMog is provided "as is" and "as available". The 3D manuals, custom manuals and the Live Co-Pilot are produced by software and AI and can be wrong or incomplete. We do not promise that BuildMog will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that following it will produce a safe or working result. You are responsible for your build or repair and for following the manufacturer's instructions and safety warnings.
To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties and are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, for damage to property, or for lost data or profit. Our total liability for claims connected with BuildMog is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or 50 US dollars if you paid nothing. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
11. Ending the agreement
You can stop using BuildMog at any time and delete your account on the account page. Deleting the account cancels Pro bought on the web; a subscription from the App Store or Google Play must be cancelled there. Unused minutes end with the account. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, after telling you, unless the breach is serious or the law prevents notice. Sections 2, 5, 10, 12 and 13 survive the end of the agreement.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [State] and the federal laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are heard in the state or federal courts located in [State], except that consumers in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland keep the protection of the mandatory laws and courts of their home country. Before going to court, email us and give us 30 days to put things right.
13. Everything else
These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between us about BuildMog. If a part is unenforceable, the rest stays in force. We may assign the agreement as part of a sale of the business; you may not assign it. Notices to us go to hello@buildmog.com; notices to you go to the email on your account. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and have no obligation to support the apps. Where you got BuildMog from the App Store, Apple's standard end-user terms also apply, and Apple may enforce these terms as a third-party beneficiary.
